SparkShop

SparkShop is a Chicago nonprofit dedicated to providing 4th and 5th grade students with hands-on STEM education activities, with a focus on empowering them to see their value in STEM fields. I’m proud to have been involved with the organization since its inception, and currently serve on its associate board. As SparkShop has grown, I contribute my graphic design skills to build engaging ad campaigns and fun physical artifacts.

Much of my design efforts have gone into creating memorable artwork for SparkShop’s social media campaigns. Be it promoting an event, raising funds, or attracting potential new hires, I take every opportunity I can to push my layout and illustration skills further.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, SparkShop had to quickly pivot their entire engagement model to completely virtual learning for the 2020-2021 school year. SparkShop developed a system of monthly “tool kits” for each student to make at-home learning feel as engaging and special as in-school programming. I took over the design and printing of the boxes themselves. I created boxes that both felt special to the students and were economical to manufacture, as well as stickers for each student to express themselves with. Hearing from teachers that the boxes were many students’ “favorite part of their month” was worth more than any accolade. The success of this pivot has continued to inform SparkShop's working model, and the boxes and stickers are still in use to this day.

I've also worked on resources for teachers that facilitate SparkShop's programming in their classrooms, like these posters that address common questions that students have about teamwork and giving feedback.
